Music in a Waldorf 1st Grade

Read an excerpt from Elisabeth Lebret’s Shepherd’s Songbook. The book includes descriptions of music in grades 1-3 and many songs. It is available from the Waldorf School Association of Ontario.

Note: This book was originally published several decades ago in 1972. Since that time, there has been continuing study and work in regards to music in the Waldorf curriculum, its pedagogy, and the developing child in the light of anthroposophy. When this book was published, the Choroi flutes and their pedagogical purpose were just being introduced. Elisabeth Lebret mentions the use of the soprano recorder, which we now know is not the most pedagogically sound instrument for healthy hearing and listening of the young child.
